Mehdi Nakosteen

Mehdi Nakosteen has drawn on his intimate knowledge and under-standing of both Eastern and Western cultures, as well as extensive research, in writing his History of Islamic Origins of Western Education.

He has written numerous books and articles about education and has been a contributor to the following major works: Approaches to an Understanding of World Affairs, published by the National Education Association in 1954, and The Challenge of Science Education, published by The Philosophical Library Publishers in 1959.

Born in Teheran, Iran, Professor Nakosteen came to the United States in 1925. He received his B.A. from the College of Wooster, M.A. from Columbia University, and Ph.D. from Cornell University. He also spent a year in special graduate study at Harvard University.

He has been on the faculty of the University of Colorado since 1938 and is now professor of history and philosophy of education in the School of Education at the University.
